Man Does Not Live by Bread Only. A Commentary on Deuteronomy 8:3
And he humbled you, and suffered you to hunger, and fed you with manna, which you knew not, neither did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD does man live.
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
As Christians, we often pray for peace. No one would like to undergo some hardships of trials. But this word of God make us understand that it’s not bad when God humbles us. In trials, we can know God’s intention and our lives can be edified. We’ve been on the go for food, thinking that we should live for food, clothing and having fun. However, God tells us that we shouldn’t live by bread only. Just as thefasted in the wilderness for forty days, and He must be starved to death at logical reasoning. But this fact counters everyone’s notions and proves that the Lord’s word is truth.
O God! It’s not bad when You test me. In trials, we can rely on You and look up to You, and truly see Your wonderful deeds. We shall not live by bread alone, but by Your every words. I’d like to cherish Your words and accept Your all trials and refinements.
