Overcome Difficulties – Proverbs 17:3

The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD tries the hearts.

Thought on Today’s Verse:

Seeing this verse, I thought of a kind of flower named Yimi, which grows in the desert. Whenever people see its full bloom, they will praise its beauty. However, many people only see its beauty, few of them know how many hardships it has undergone before it blooms. Yimi flower only has one root. In order to survive in the arid desert, it can only send its roots deeper into the soil so that it can draw sufficient moisture. The process takes at least five years. Our lives are also like this.

It is recorded in the Proverbs: “The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD tries the hearts” (Proverbs 17:3).

Have you ever been perplexed or sorrowful when faced with hardship? Please believe that God will open up a path for us because behind the hardship contains God’s good intentions. For example, when Moses lived in the wilderness for forty years, he learnt how to depend on God in the hardships and his faith in God to become stronger and stronger. Later, even when being hunted by the Egyptian soldiers, he was quite fearless, and led the Israelites out of Egypt by relying on God. His faith bears a strong relationship to the difficulties and hardship he suffered.

When I was practicing spiritual devotions, I saw the following passage: “When someone encounters an especially thorny difficulty, when they have no one to turn to, when they feel especially helpless, they trust in God as their only hope. What are their prayers like? What is their state of mind? Is it sincere? Do they have any mixed purpose at that time? When you trust God as though He were the last straw that you clutch onto to save your life, when you hope God will help you, only then is your heart sincere. Though you may not have said much, your heart has already stirred. That is, you give your true heart, your sincere heart to God, and God listens. When God listens, He sees your difficulties, and He guides you, enlightens you and helps you.

God arranges many setbacks or difficulties in our lives to temper our will, so that we can have an indomitable faith and courage. Meanwhile, we can learn to rely on God to overcome these difficulties. When God sees our sincere hearts, He will help us and lead us to go through all the difficulties. After experiencing hardship, we will become much stronger.
