From December 2016 to January 2017, the National Security Bureau of Pizhou City Jiangsu Province, together with Guanhu Police Station of Pizhou City Jiangsu Province, arrested many Christians from the Church of Almighty God (CAG), which made it impossible for the Christians there to attend meetings regularly.
After 9 a.m. on December 23, 2016, Ma Yu (pseudonym, female, 38 years old), a Christian living in Guanhu Town Pizhou City Jiangsu Province, was meeting together with three local Christians Zhang Qing (pseudonym, female, 34 years old), Zhou Lan (pseudonym, female, 56 years old), and Guo Jingjing (pseudonym, female) at the home of Song Yang (pseudonym, female, 80 years old), a Christian in Guanhu Town. Just at that time, a dozen plainclothes policemen (a policeman is called Wang Jianhua, 29 years old, about 1.7 meters tall, long-faced, not too fat; another policeman is surnamed Zhou, around 30 years old, about 1.75 meters tall, fat, and square-faced) of Baibu Police Station of Guanhu Town Pizhou City Jiangsu Province drove a police car and three private cars to Ms. Song’s home. Simply asking them some questions, the policemen began to rummage about the house from the first floor to the third floor, leaving all the rooms in a mess. As soon as the policeman Wang Jianhua found Ms. Ma and Ms. Zhang on the third floor, he seized them and dragged them down to the first floor. He confiscated Ms. Ma’s MP5 player, SD card, and thirty yuan, Ms. Zhou’s one thousand yuan, Ms. Zhang’s bracelet, watch, and earrings, and Ms. Song’s two MP5 players. Then he made them squat in the room. He ordered Ms. Ma to go to another room, and asked her what her name was and where she lived. Ms. Ma didn’t answer his questions. So Wang Jianhua seized a book and knocked her on the head. Subsequently, Ms. Ma, along with another four Christians was sent by the policemen to Baubu Police Station of Guanhu Town in the police car.
When they arrived at the police station, Ms. Ma was locked up in an office with two policemen guarding her. (They didn’t give her anything to eat or drink from half past 9 a.m. to 1 o’clock p.m.) At about 1 p.m., Wang Jianhua took Ms. Ma to another room to interrogate her about believing in God, and he also said, “You think that we are doing nothing every day. You have been kept under our surveillance for long.” Then he asked, “What’s your pseudonym? Where do you live?” Ms. Ma refused to answer, so Wang Jianhua again knocked her on the head with a book. Seeing that he couldn’t get anything from her, he sent her back to the office.
At about 3 o’clock p.m., the policemen took Ms. Ma and the other four Christians with private cars to a hotel in Peixian County. (In fact, it is a base that the policemen use to secretly interrogate believers in God.) Each Christian was guarded by two policemen in a separate room. At about 5 p.m., the head (over 50 years old, about 1.75 meters tall) of the National Security Brigade of Pizhou City and Policeman Zhou of Baibu Police Station interrogated Ms. Ma about believing in God. Ms. Ma still refused to answer.
At 6 o’clock p.m. on December 24, Policeman Li (over 50 years old, 1.75 meters tall, long-faced) of the National Security Brigade came to Ms. Ma and asked, “Have you confessed? What’s your duty? How long have you been doing it?” When he saw Ms. Ma didn’t answer, he began to threaten her, “Confess what you did, or I’ll put you on the torture-rack!” Ms. Ma said nothing, so they tied her hands behind her back with handcuffs. Then they hanged her from the 80-centimeter high rack and made her sit onto the ground. Her arms ached a lot as if they were broken. A policeman sneered, “That’s not enough. If your arms are broken, they will be joined up together with nails.” Then the policemen put Ms. Ma’s legs on a small stool and her buttocks could not reach the ground. Also, they dragged her legs hard, which made her suffer agony. A policeman even confounded right and wrong, saying, “If we don’t treat you believers in God like this, you will do it on us in the future.” In addition, they put books of on the stoolunder her legs, sneering, “Do you feel painful seeing the books?” In the meantime, the policemen continued to interrogate Ms. Ma. Because she refused to answer, they slapped her face five or six times. She immediately felt her cheeks burning. The policemen didn’t stop interrogating and torturing Ms. Ma until 11 o’clock p.m. when they were too tired. Then Ms. Ma’s hands were put down, and they had been numb. Even now, Ms. Ma can’t do any work.
From December 25 to 26, the policemen interrogated Ms. Ma three times and asked her the questions about believing in God. They even threatened, “If you don’t answer the questions honestly, you will be tortured again!” In the end, they got nothing from Ms. Ma. On December 31, she was put in the detention center of Xuzhou City.
In the detention center, Ms. Ma was ordered to recite the prison rules. If any prisoner recites them wrongly, he will be beaten. If any prisoner in a cell makes a mistake, all the other prisoners in the cell will be punished, and they will half kneel down before the policemen. If some leaders come to inspect, all the prisoners have to half kneel and say, “Hello, leaders!” If the leaders leave, the prisoners have to leave backwards. Every day, except the fifteen minutes when they are let out for exercise or to relieve themselves, they have to sit cross-legged, and are forbidden to scratch themselves even if they itch.
Thirty-three days after her arrest, Ms. Ma learned that her family posted a RMB 5000 bail for her. So she was set free at half past 9 p.m. on January 25, 2017. The other Christians’ conditions are still under investigation.
From December 23, 2016 to January 16, 2017, after Ms. Ma and other four Christians were arrested, a village cadre (Feng Erhu, male, around 30 years old, about 1.75 meters tall) of Guanhu Town Pizhou City Jiangsu Province, the people (one of them was called Li Huiliang, male, 42 years old) of the National Security Bureau of Pizhou City Jiangsu Province together with the Police Station of Guanhu Town Pizhou City Jiangsu Province continuously investigated the Christians in Guanhu Town Pizhou City Jiangsu Province. The following are the situations of the Christians investigated.
From December 23 to 25, 2016, the policemen rummaged around the house of the Christian Ms. Wang (67 years old) three times in Guanhu Town Pizhou City Jiangsu Province, leaving her house in chaos. The books of God’s word were confiscated.
At about 11 o’clock a.m. on December 26, 2016, the policemen went to Guanhu Town Pizhou City Jiangsu Province and searched the house of the Christian Ms. Liu (74 years old), leaving her house in a mess. A MP5 player was confiscated.
On December 26 and 28, 2016, and on January 4, 11, and 16, 2017, the policemen rummaged around the house of the Christian Ms. Liu (73 years old) five times in Guanhu Town Pizhou City Jiangsu Province, leaving her house in a mess. During these days, the policemen kept harassing her son on the phone, asking his mother to go to the police station for an inquiry.
On December 25, 26, and 28, 2016, and on January 6, 2017, the policemen searched the house of the Christian Ms. Zhuang (71 years old) four times in Guanhu Town Pizhou City Jiangsu Province. On the noon of January 6, three policemen came to her home and turned her home upside down. They took away a SD card and an earphone. Then they took Ms. Zhuang to the local government office where two cadres (both female) threatened, “If you go on believing in God, your children will be affected. Your children will not be allowed to go to college or join the army.” The village cadre Feng Erhu asked Ms. Zhuang, “Did anyone attend meetings in your house half a month ago?” Ms. Zhuang didn’t answer the question, so a policeman threatened, “If you don’t answer the questions, we will put you on a torture-rack. Then you will answer.” Because they were not satisfied with Ms. Zhuang’s answer, they wanted to take her to Baibu Police Station of Guanhu Town Pizhou City. At that time, Ms. Zhuang wanted to go to the restroom. A policeman said, “Now you are in my hand. You must listen to me. Do not relieve yourself!” Then a policeman pointed to another policeman and said to Ms. Zhuang, “Don’t you ? He is God!” Ms. Zhuang was fiercely angry. At about 2 o’clock p.m., the policemen took Ms. Zhuang to Baibu Police Station of Guanhu Town. They took out many pictures of those who believe in God and asked Ms. Zhuang to identify them. She refused and their interrogation was in vain. At about 4 p.m. she was set free and went home.
Repeatedly, the policemen of CCP rummaged around some Christians’ houses in Guanhu Town while they had no warrants. They also incited their families to prevent them from believing in God, which made some Christians suffer persecution from their families. They have failed to live the normal church life up to now.
