Where Is Our Real Shelter When Encountering Deadly Calamity?

The Las Vegas mass shooting in America caused dozens of people dead. What’s the reason for so many calamities befalling the world one after another? Where is the real shelter for us?

It was reported that at 10 pm on 1st of October this year, a mass shooting occurred on Las Vegas strip in Nevada, America. When the shooting began, an outdoor countryside music concert was holding at Mandalay Bay Hotel Casino on Las Vegas Strip, with a crowd of 22,000 attending. A gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of the hotel on the audience below, which lasted for almost 20 minutes. The shooting caused at least 59 people dead and 537 people wounded. The police said the shooter had committed suicide.

When knowing the news, by watching the chaotic and horrible scenes of the video, it reminds me of a few scriptures, which are, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good” (2 Timothy 3:1-3).

Above scriptures reveal the chaotic phenomena of the last days. By reviewing of these terrible incidents, such as shooting, violence, murder, suicide bomber, which occurred in recent years across the world, and fulfilled the scriptures gradually, we can know what is happening now is the inevitable trend of human’s degeneration of evil and corruption to the worst. Because satanic poisons such as arrogance, selfishness, maliciousness, ferocity and so on have ingrained in our life after we were corrupted by Satan, so that we become more and more evil and fierce to the extent that we lost humanity completely. The Las Vegas Mass Shooting of 2017 was the deadliest accident in American contemporary history. In fact, the gunman was a rich man owning two airplanes and villas, nevertheless he made the mass shooting for no reason of fame or money, while the 59 people were killed in a few seconds by him. It’s obvious that the gunman was fierce to the worst to do any bad thing. However those who had been killed by him were innocent victims.

The Lord once warned us, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). In recent years, so many people had lost their lives because of violence, murder and shooting. With the addition of various natural calamities occurring across the world, we realize that life is so precious but delicate and weak when it is confronted with continuous threats. It’s no wonder that Jesus warns us to pray and be sober to wait for his returning. Because when the world is becoming evil and dark, calamities occurring frequently, this is the time for Jesus to come to save us. Satan wants to devour us by disasters, while God wants us to be vigilant, to come to him and accept his salvation, so that we can be freed from Satan’s harm and affliction thoroughly. God is our only shelter because He takes care of anyone who truly loves the truth and yearns for the light. He compassionates anyone who is waiting for his appearance. Just as a paragraph of God’s words which I have read from the gospel website, “Almighty God the practical God! You are our strong tower. You are our refuge. We huddle under Your wings, and calamity cannot reach me. This is Your divine protection and care. … Be watchful—watchful! The time cannot be far off” (“The Fifth Utterance” in Utterances and Testimonies of Christ in the Beginning).
