I have ever heard about such a story: A brother came to a church in his dream, where he saw a sister was playing the piano, but he couldn’t hear the music. And there were choir members and believers singing, yet he still couldn’t hear their voice at all. The pastor came to the platform to pray, again he heard nothing, but only saw his mouth moving. Surprised, the brother asked the angel why he couldn’t hear any sound. The angel told him, “Because they are not doing those things sincerely. These people’s worship of God is just for effect.”
After I read this story, the first reaction in my heart was that God observes the bottom of people’s heart. And this story is not merely a story but a true portrayal of us Christians.
Why do we humans still come to worship God when they don’t make a genuine voice? The only reason is for being blessed. Some people How many believe in Me only so I would heal them? How many believe in Me only so I would use My powers to drive unclean spirits out of their bodies? And how many believe in Me simply to receive peace and joy from Me? How many believe in Me only to demand from Me more material wealth, and how many believe in Me just to spend this life in safety and to be safe and sound in the world to come? How many believe in Me only to avoid the suffering of hell and to receive the blessings of heaven? How many believe in Me only for temporary comfort but do not seek to gain anything in the world to come? When I brought down My fury upon man and seized all the joy and peace he originally possessed, man became doubtful. When I gave unto man the suffering of hell and reclaimed the blessings of heaven, man’s shame turned into anger. When man asked Me to heal him, yet I acknowledged him not and felt abhorrence for him, man went far away from Me and sought the way of witch doctors and sorcery. When I took away all that man had demanded from Me, then all disappeared without a trace. Therefore, I say that man has faith in Me because I give too much grace, and there is far too much to gain.” for the purpose that God would heal their families or themselves; some for safety with their family and enjoyment of their flesh; some for God’s blessing on their prosperous business; some for getting status and power; even some for entering into heaven. … When our illnesses are healed and we have wealth, position and power, we can praise the great love of God, and also we are willing to spend time and energy for Him. When our families are in safety, we can thank and praise God. But when God takes away all of these and when disasters befall us, we are negative and weak, complain to God, and even deny the existence of God. Just as God says: “
It can be seen that although we believe in God, we only want to obtain a benefit from Him and to gain His blessings. What we value is our family, wealth, position, power, etc. Many times we come before God without giving our hearts to Him; many times we merely promise God much, saying that we are willing to love Him and serve Him, yet in fact, we haven’t put them into practice. We are totally the greatest talkers, but the least doers. Therefore God says our worship to Him is just going through the motions.
Then what is true and real worship to Him? says: “It is the belief in God so that you may obey God, love God, and perform the duty that should be performed by a creature of God. This is the aim of believing in God. … Belief in God is principally the switch from a life in the flesh to a life of loving God, from a life within naturalness to a life within the being of God, it is coming out from under the domain of Satan and living under the care and protection of God, it is being able to achieve obedience to God and not obedience to the flesh, it is allowing God to gain your entire heart, allowing God to make you perfect, and freeing yourself from the corrupt satanic disposition. Belief in God is principally so that the power and glory of God may be manifested in you, so that you may carry out , and accomplish God’s plan, and be able to bear testimony to God before Satan. Belief in God should not be in order to behold signs and wonders, nor should it be for the sake of your personal flesh. It should be for the pursuit of knowing God, and being able to obey God, and like Peter, obeying Him until death. This is what it is mainly in order to achieve.”
From God’s words, we can know that true belief in God is for us to give our true heart to Him, not for us to gain blessings or enter into heaven, but rather for us to know and love Him, so that finally we are able to satisfy Him and accomplish His will. Let’s think about Job. He lost all his property and children overnight and then his body became covered in boils. Yet he didn’t deny the name of but still praised Jehovah, “The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” Or as another example, Peter. In order to love God, He was crucified upside down for God, and finally reached a point where he was capable of loving God to the highest level and obeying Him to the death. If we can truly obey God’s orchestration and arrangement whether we receive blessings or suffer misfortune, and if we can care for God’s will and be loyal to God no matter what God does, then we will be men who truly believe in and worship God.
Let us pray: Oh God! Although we believe in You, our belief in You is for our own benefits and blessings. Many times we are merely willing to love You. However, bound by our corrupt dispositions, we cannot put aside the worldly things but always rebel against and oppose You when unfavorable things befall us. May You give us faith and power, make us be able to offer our true heart to You so that whether You take or bestow, we can truly obey You and worship You. Because You are the Creator and we are Your creations….
