Daily Bible Verse of the Day
Continuous disasters like wars, plagues, earthquakes, and floods have plunged the world into panic and despair. Only by relying on God can we find true peace and strength amidst the turmoil. Read the explanation of Psalm 18:2–3 to discover shelter and hope.
Today, when we look up at the world, we see the persistent shadow of war hanging over many regions. Disasters such as pandemics, earthquakes, floods, and volcanic eruptions keep coming one after another. These calamities evoke an unparalleled feeling of fear, bewilderment, and helplessness among people. In the face of such immense turmoil, we can’t help but sigh: How small is the strength of humanity!
The power of nature makes human civilization incredibly vulnerable. A sudden pandemic can lock down a country, a severe earthquake can destroy thousands of homes, and floods, volcanic eruptions, and famine can leave countless people homeless and in despair. In the face of these challenges, while human wisdom and technology can help mitigate the impact of disasters, we can never completely prevent them from occurring.
Throughout human history, there have been no shortage of these heartbreaking calamities. Whether it’s the destruction caused by war or the fear brought on by rampant plagues, these events remind us of the world’s unpredictability and humanity’s helplessness. Yet, in such darkness, do we still have hope? The answer is yes. As Psalm 18:2 says: “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”
In David’s life, he faced countless dangers and hardships, yet each time he chose to place his faith in God. He understood that human strength is limited, but God’s power is infinite. Whether confronting enemy attacks or navigating perilous situations, only God is our strongest “rock” and the safest “fortress.” Today, as we live in such a tumultuous and flashy world, we too need to find that kind of security. Despite the changing times, God’s love and protection have not lessened; He is still our sanctuary for the spirit and our safe harbor in the midst of storms.
In a bustling world, many people chase fame, wealth, and pleasure, yet they overlook the emptiness deep within their souls. These disasters today might be a reminder for us to stop indulging in the world’s allure and instead come back to God to repent and seek His protection and rescue. Only then can we escape this great calamity. As God says, “If mankind wishes to have a good fate, if a country wishes to have a good fate, then man must bow down to God in worship, repent and confess before God, or else the fate and destination of man will be an unavoidable catastrophe” (The Word, Vol. 1. The Appearance and Work of God. Appendix 2: God Presides Over the Fate of All Mankind).
The unprecedented disasters we face today are God’s reminders and warnings to humanity. He does not want those He has saved to fall into disaster; instead, He uses these calamities to awaken us to seek the one true God who can offer salvation and safety. We should not wait until disaster strikes fully to seek God’s protection. In the face of these challenges, we must set aside our pride, sincerely come before God to repent, and ask for His mercy and salvation. Only God can provide us with the strongest protection amid these escalating disasters.
Let Us Pray Together
Dear God, we thank You because You are our rock, our fortress, and our shield. In this turbulent world, we may sometimes feel helpless and afraid, but You are always our strongest support. O God, please forgive our sins and help us to repent, turning away from the world’s superficiality and temptations, and wholeheartedly seeking Your presence. We seek Your protection amid calamities, so that we do not lose our faith during hardships. May Your grace and mercy always be with us, allowing us to see light in the darkness and find hope in despair. O God, we believe You are the almighty Savior, our high tower, and may all our fears and anxieties fade away because of You. Amen!
