Matthew 7:7–8 Explanation: The Key to Seeking God
Daily Bible Verse of the Day
The Lord Jesus said, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you: For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.”
In hardship, how do we knock on God’s door and seek the answers we need? This essay unveils the crucial secrets of asking and seeking. If you read until the end, you will see that when we genuinely knock, God‘s will is made clear to us, and the path forward will become visible.
The words of the Lord Jesus tell us that as long as we persistently ask, seek, and knock with faith, God will respond in His way. But many may wonder, “I’ve prayed and sought, why haven’t I seen God’s response immediately?” In truth, seeking God is not just about waiting; it’s also a process of spiritual interaction with God and the growth of faith.
God says, “You must be proactive in cooperating with Me; be diligent, and never be lazy. Always fellowship with Me and attain an even deeper intimacy with Me. If you do not understand, do not be impatient for quick results. It is not that I will not tell you; it is that I want to see whether you rely on Me when you are in My presence, and whether you are confident in your dependence on Me. You must always remain close to Me, and place all matters in My hands. Do not go back in vain. After you have been unconsciously close to Me for a period of time, My intentions shall be revealed to you. If you grasp them, then you will truly come face to face with Me, and you will truly have found My face. You will have much clarity and steadfastness within, and you will have something to rely on. You will then also possess power, as well as confidence, and you will have a path forward. Everything will come easily to you” (The Word, Vol. 1. The Appearance and Work of God. Utterances of Christ in the Beginning, Chapter 9).
God’s word tells us that seeking God requires active engagement, not passive waiting. It also demands patience and persistence, not fleeting enthusiasm. Seeking God is not just about superficial prayers, but about being willing to draw our hearts close to Him, opening ourselves to Him with complete surrender.
Moses in the Bible was a person who often encountered God “face to face.” He led the Israelites out of Egypt, facing many challenges such as the Red Sea blocking their path, hunger and thirst in the wilderness, and the people’s complaints. However, no matter how great the problem, he did not rely on his own wisdom but actively prayed, seeking God’s guidance. For example, when the Red Sea was ahead and the enemy was behind, Moses prayed, and God opened a path through the sea for the Israelites to pass. Moses’ experience teaches us that in difficult times, when we are willing to surrender everything into God’s hands and rely on His power instead of our own methods, His guidance will be revealed to us. This humble and obedient attitude is something we need to learn in times of adversity.
Sometimes, when we don’t immediately see answers to our prayers, it’s not because God hasn’t heard us, but because He is testing our faith. God wants to see if we truly rely on Him, if we can persist in prayer and draw near to Him during trials, and whether we will be discouraged just because there’s no immediate response. Through this process, God desires for us to strengthen our trust in Him and help us grow in our faith.
God’s promises will not be left unfulfilled! The Lord Jesus said, “Seek, and you shall find.” This is a truth that will never change. The important thing is whether we can maintain faith, continue to pray, draw near to God, and wait for His perfect timing.
May we grow closer to God and rely on Him more as we seek Him, casting our difficulties and burdens upon Him. God is a faithful God, and He will surely guide us through every challenge, helping us find the way forward in His light. As God says, “You must always remain close to Me, and place all matters in My hands. Do not go back in vain. After you have been unconsciously close to Me for a period of time, My intentions shall be revealed to you” (The Word, Vol. 1. The Appearance and Work of God. Utterances of Christ in the Beginning, Chapter 9).
