A Miraculous Deliverance in the Runaway Sliding-Tub

My name is Guangming. I am 64 and work in a coal mine. Hearing this, you may first think it is a dangerous job. Once the gas blasts or the mine collapses, miners will probably lose their lives at any time. That is also a common tragic accident every year. Whenever I read the news saying that miners in such-and-such provinces and cities died from mine accidents, I would feel uneasy, afraid that such a misfortune might befall me someday. Later, my daughter preached God’s work of the last days to me. In order to receive God’s protection, I accepted it readily. But I treated my belief in God merely as spiritual sustenance. Not until I saw God’s almightiness and sovereignty from a recent dangerous experience in underground mine, did I have an unshakable faith in God’s true existence.

 God’s almightiness

We used to go down the mine by person vehicle. One month before the overhead cable car system was equipped to carry us to the underground mine. We all felt it was much more convenient. Around half past 7 a.m. on June 13, 2017, the other dozen miners in my charge and I went down to the underground mine by cableway. While descending to a depth of 140 meters, it suddenly accelerated, and within two minutes it was sliding rapidly along the tunnel like an arrow. Instantly I was utterly confused, and I was so frightened that sweat broke out on my face. I thought to myself: If the cableway keeps sliding down, undoubtedly we will die; even if it doesn’t slide but instead plunges against the big wheel ahead, we will also be dashed to death. … Right then, the other men began to yell, and some of them exclaimed, “Jump?” I was very scared, but I anxiously shouted to them, “No, don’t jump!” For I was very clear that the cableway moved swiftly along the tunnel, which is a steep slope of 30 or 40 degrees and constructed with iron sheds; should we jump down, we would fall to death.

In that moment, a feeling of desolation and helplessness welled up inside me and I sensed death was drawing near to me step by step. Faced with the peril, I suddenly felt that life was so short and fragile. In helplessness, I remembered that I was a believer in God, so I called out to God eagerly for His mercy and protection. I tightly embraced the steel pipe, firmly grasped the steel rope with both hands, closely shut my eyes, and cried out desperately to God in my heart, “Oh God, I am a small man who can do nothing. I can only rely on You to escape death. For You are the source of life for all things, and everything is in Your hand. Please help me!” Right after my prayer, a line of hymn of God’s word rang in my ears, “Almighty God, the practical God! You are our impregnable fortress. You are our refuge. We huddle under Your wings, and calamity cannot reach us. Such is Your divine protection and care” (Follow the Lamb and Sing New Songs). God’s words carry authority and might, which gave me confidence all at once. Thinking that God was my strong tower and refuge, I calmed down somewhat. Just then something marvelous happened—the overhead cableway decelerated and stopped slowly. Everyone was stunned and felt that it was really a miracle. At that time, a man of sixties said, “Thank God! We must have met a lucky star today, or how could the cableway stop abruptly? What a wonder!” Several young men sighed with emotion, too, “Twenty more meters and the cableway would have bumped against the big wheel. That was close!” Seeing their astonished looks, I thanked God and praised His great power in my heart. I knew God had heard my prayer and secretly protected us from the calamity.

At this moment, I was reminded that although I believed in God, I only knew the letters and doctrines of His words. If I hadn’t personally experienced God’s almightiness and sovereignty today, I would not have gained real knowledge of God. I recalled the cableway accident that happened in Jianye mine in 2015, in which three people died and forty-five people had their arms and legs broken. If God had not enlightened me to call out to Him in time of danger, we would have suffered the same miserable fate as them. It was God’s protection that allowed me to survive. I experienced that God is omnipotent and omnipresent and that He was genuinely right by my side, and saw God’s almightiness. I then prayed to God in my heart, “Oh Almighty God, just now I really saw Your almightiness, Your sovereignty, and Your wonderful deed. I have no idea whether I am dead or alive now without Your care. Oh God, thank You for freeing me from the danger and bringing me to safety. Oh God, in the past I didn’t truly believe in You, but You showed me so much mercy. In future I am willing to repay Your salvation with my heart. Amen!”

Since then, my faith in God increased. I no longer took belief in God to be a spiritual sustenance but followed and worshiped Him with my heart and soul. Now, in addition to reading God’s words carefully every day and going to meetings regularly, I also actively perform my duty within my power to repay God’s love and comfort His heart.
