Explanation of Daniel 12:1–3 - Is Your Name Written in the Book of Life?

Daily Bible Verse of the Day

And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which stands for the children of your people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time your people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

Thoughts on Today's Verse…

Seeing the escalating disasters and the loss of many lives, are you also feeling fear and concern for the safety of yourself and your family? Do you wonder who can receive God’s protection during such catastrophic times? By reading this essay, you will discover the answers and have the chance to find God’s protection when disasters arrive.

From these verses, we learn about an apocalyptic vision depicting great tribulations when the Lord returns. Only the righteous and wise whose names are recorded in God’s book of life, the overcomers made by God in the last days, will be saved and survive the calamities. They will enter God’s kingdom, and obtain eternal life, forever and ever. As we witness the increasing turmoil worldwide, with conflicts like the Israel-Palestine conflict, the Russo-Ukrainian War, internal strife in Myanmar, and escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, there’s a notable concern that these crises could escalate into a global conflict, potentially leading to a third world war. Additionally, disasters like pandemics, earthquakes, famines, and floods are on the rise. According to biblical prophecies, future calamities are predicted to be even more severe. People are living in fear and uncertainty, unsure of what the future holds. However, these verses provide us with a direction and a path to God’s protection amidst calamities. It emphasizes being made into overcomers by God and having our names recorded in the book of life. What does an overcomer refer to? Revelation 14:4-5 states, “These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed from among men, being the first fruits to God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.” Let’s further explore what God’s word says. God says, “Those whom God refers to as ‘overcomers’ are those who are still able to stand witness and maintain their confidence and devotion to God when under the influence of Satan and while being laid siege to by Satan, that is, when they find themselves amidst the forces of darkness. If you are still able to keep a pure heart before God and maintain your genuine love for God no matter what, then you are standing witness in front of God, and this is what God refers to as being an ‘overcomer’(The Word, Vol. 1. The Appearance and Work of God. You Should Maintain Your Devotion to God). “Those who are made complete before the disaster are submissive to God. They live reliant on Christ, they bear witness to Him, and they exalt Him. They are the victorious male children and good soldiers of Christ(The Word, Vol. 1. The Appearance and Work of God. Utterances of Christ in the Beginning, Chapter 13). From God’s words, we can understand that overcomers are those who closely follow the Lamb’s footsteps, grasp the truth and have knowledge of God; they fear God and shun evil, have broken away from sin, liberated from the influence of Satan, and no longer commit sins. Regardless of Christ’s actions or words, they consistently obey and follow and have unwavering loyalty to God. They willingly labor and expend for the Lord without expecting anything in return, solely to repay God’s love. Amidst various trials and tribulations, they do not complain at all, but remain obedient to God even unto death, offering beautiful and resounding testimonies to God. Such individuals are the overcomers made by God, and also are the 144,000 victorious male children prophesied in the Book of Revelation, whose names are recorded in the book of life.
