Explanation of Matthew 6:34 - How to Let Go of Worry

Today's Verse

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is the evil thereof.

Thoughts on Today's Verse…

In daily life, numerous people are planning for tomorrow, but we cannot control our own future. Therefore, the more we plan for tomorrow and the future, the greater the pain it brings us. This is something that many people deeply understand. So, how can we break free from this pain? The following sharing can show you the way.

The Lord Jesus said, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is the evil thereof(Matthew 6:34). Whenever we read this verse, we are particularly moved in our hearts and can feel the Lord’s love and care for us from the depths of our souls. The Lord knows that we live in this dark society and face many hardships and pressures, causing anxiety and unrest in our hearts. Therefore, He asks us not to worry about tomorrow or be anxious about the future. Instead, we should rely on the Lord’s provision and protection, and entrust today’s difficulties to His hands. By submitting to God’s sovereignty and letting Him rule over every day of us, we can live a life of freedom and liberation, and experience peace and joy in our hearts. At the same time, through this verse, the Lord also helps us realize that we are mere creatures and have no control over our tomorrow, let alone our fate. Each person’s life is in the hands of God, and is orchestrated and arranged by God. Only God is in control of everything, including our future and destiny. Whatever the future holds for us, it is already predetermined by God. If we always try to resist God’s arrangements and plan for our own future and destiny, we will only bring ourselves more worries and pain. Finally, let’s read two passages of God’s words together, so that we can better understand the truth regarding this aspect.

God says, “The fate of man is controlled by the hands of God. You are incapable of controlling yourself: Despite man always rushing and busying himself on his own behalf, he remains incapable of controlling himself. If you could know your own prospects, if you could control your own fate, would you still be a created being?

When one looks back on the road one has walked, when one recollects every phase of one’s journey, one sees that at every step, whether one’s journey was arduous or smooth, God was guiding one’s path, planning it out. It was God’s meticulous arrangements, His careful planning, that led one, unknowingly, to today. To be able to accept the Creator’s sovereignty, to receive His salvation—what great fortune that is! If a person has a negative attitude toward fate, it proves that they are resisting everything that God has arranged for them, that they do not have a submissive attitude. If one has a positive attitude toward God’s sovereignty over human fate, then when one looks back upon one’s journey, when one truly comes to grips with God’s sovereignty, one will more earnestly desire to submit to everything that God has arranged, will have more determination and confidence to let God orchestrate one’s fate and to stop rebelling against God. For one sees that when one does not comprehend fate, when one does not understand God’s sovereignty, when one gropes their way forward willfully, staggering and tottering through the fog, the journey is too difficult, too heartbreaking. So when people recognize God’s sovereignty over human fate, the clever ones choose to know it and accept it, to bid farewell to the painful days when they tried to build a good life with their own two hands, and to stop struggling against fate and pursuing their so-called ‘life goals’ in their own way. When one does not have God, when one cannot see Him, when one cannot clearly recognize God’s sovereignty, every day is meaningless, worthless, miserable. Wherever one is, whatever one’s job is, one’s means of living and the pursuit of one’s goals bring one nothing but endless heartbreak and suffering without relief, such that one cannot bear to look back on one’s past. Only when one accepts the Creator’s sovereignty, submits to His orchestrations and arrangements, and seeks true human life will one gradually begin to break free from all heartbreak and suffering, and to be rid of all the emptiness of life.
