The Mission of Training Up a Child - The Profound Call in Proverbs 22:6

Devotional for today

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

This verse is a call to parents and educators, as well as a responsibility we bear towards the next generation. Nurturing children goes beyond imparting knowledge; it is about guiding them onto the right path in life. However, this is not an overnight task; it is a gradual process that requires our continuous investment of care, patience, and wisdom. We need to teach them to discern between right and wrong, good and evil. Moreover, we need to guide them to understand God’s love and salvation within His will and truth, so that they may come to know God and embark on a righteous life journey. Though this task may not be easy, given the various influences and temptations around us, when we bring children before God and educate them with His word, it leaves an indelible mark deep within their hearts, becoming a lifelong guide for them. This responsibility continues through each stage of a child’s growth, meaning our care and guidance need to span their entire development process. In every decision and choice, we can lead them with God’s truth and wisdom, enabling them to walk steadfastly on the right path and never depart from God’s ways, even in old age.

Let us pray together:

Dear Lord, we thank You for entrusting us with the mission of nurturing children. We pray for an abundance of wisdom and patience to fulfill this precious responsibility. Help us to become mentors and friends in the lives of our children, setting a positive example through our words and actions. May our conduct serve as a model for them to follow. To accomplish this, we need to diligently seek Your truth, gaining wisdom from Your words. May everything we do be in line with Your will. Lord, we acknowledge that in this challenging era, our children face various temptations and pressures. We ask for Your protection over them, guarding them from the influence of evil, and keeping them on the right path as they pursue the truth. May Your love fill our homes, and may Your word be a firm foundation in our lives and the lives of our children. Together, may we walk on the life journey You have prepared for us, remaining steadfast in Your ways until old age. Amen!
