John 16:12–13 Meaning: The Spirit of Truth Brings God’s Final Salvation
Daily Bible Verse of the Day
The Lord Jesus said, “I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.”
Though we have our sins forgiven through faith in the Lord, we still often find ourselves entangled by sin. This leads many to wonder, “Can we truly enter the kingdom of heaven?” There’s no need to worry, because the Lord Jesus, upon His return in the last days, will speak many words to guide us into all truths, helping us completely break free from sin and enter the kingdom of heaven. The Lord Jesus said, “I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth” (John 16:12–13). Do you feel a sense of curiosity and anticipation when reading the words of the Lord Jesus? What truths will He express when He returns in the last days? And why is it necessary for Him to speak these truths?
From the words of the Lord Jesus, we can understand that the redemptive work He accomplished during the Age of Grace was only the beginning of God’s saving work, not the entirety of it. When He returns in the last days, the Spirit of Truth will come, and He will speak many more words to guide us into all truths, allowing us to completely escape sin, gain full salvation and get into the kingdom of heaven. This also fulfills the words of the Lord Jesus: “Sanctify them through your truth: your word is truth” (John 17:17).
After believing in the Lord, we observe a reality: Although our sins are forgiven and God no longer sees us as sinners, we still frequently commit sins, such as lying and cheating, crookedness and deceitfulness, arrogance and haughtiness. These corrupt dispositions are deeply rooted within us and often lead us to act against God’s intentions. This indicates that the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus only forgives our sins but does not resolve the root of sin. If the root of our sin remains unresolved, we will not be able to be saved and enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, when the Lord returns in the last days, He will express more profound truths to guide us in understanding and entering the truth, enabling us to completely break free from sin and be cleansed by God, so that we may live forever in His light. As God says, “Though Jesus came among man and did much work, He only completed the work of redeeming all mankind and served as man’s sin offering; He did not rid man of all his corrupt disposition. Fully saving man from the influence of Satan not only required Jesus to become the sin offering and bear the sins of man, but it also required God to do even greater work to rid man completely of his satanically corrupted disposition. And so, after man was forgiven of his sins, God returned to the flesh to lead man into the new age, and began the work of chastisement and judgment. This work has brought man into a higher realm. All those who submit under His dominion shall enjoy higher truth and receive greater blessings. They shall truly live in the light, and they shall gain the truth, the way, and the life” (The Word, Vol. 1. The Appearance and Work of God. Preface).
It’s similar to a child attending school. Initially, the teacher teaches them to recognize letters and perform basic addition and subtraction—these skills are sufficient for the moment. However, if the child wishes to progress further in the future, they need to acquire more in-depth knowledge. Likewise, God’s work in the last days is to guide us step by step through the truths He expresses, helping us to fully understand the truth and achieve salvation.
By speaking the words in the last days, God reveals to us His six-thousand-year plan for saving humanity and guides us in understanding many mysteries: the origin and development of humankind, how Satan corrupts humanity, how God gradually saves people from Satan's influence, how God determines the outcomes of individuals, who will be saved, and who will be eliminated… The purpose of uttering these truths is to help us recognize God’s righteous disposition, enabling us to have reverence and obedience to God, foster genuine love, and freeing us from sin and suffering. Thus, we will be able to enter the beautiful destination that God has prepared for humanity.
