In this materialistic and highly competitive society, we often find ourselves worrying and agonizing over trivial matters such as food, drink, the future, and family. We seemingly have forgotten the teachings of the Lord and the mighty power of God, as well as God’s care and protection for us. Despite our longing for peace and contentment, we often neglect to rely on and trust in God. The words of the Lord Jesus remind us that life is not merely about material contentment and comfort; what’s more essential is God’s salvation and His provision for our lives. We shouldn’t neglect our spiritual needs for temporary material pursuits. Instead, we should learn to entrust everything to God, and accept His salvation and provision for our lives. This way, we can let go of worries and anxieties and face life’s challenges with a more relaxed mindset. We believe: God loves us and will provide all our needs, and with His help, we can surpass all difficulties and lead a more fulfilling, meaningful life.

2. Romans 8:28

In life, we often encounter various difficulties, setbacks, pain, disappointment, and even natural disasters or human tragedies. These experiences can leave us feeling discouraged, hopeless, doubtful, and at times resentful. We don’t understand why these unfortunate things happen to us; we’re unsure whether God truly loves us, what His good intentions and plans really are. However, this verse gives us an inspiring and comforting answer, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). This verse tells us that regardless of our circumstances, God is in control, arranging, transforming, and blessing us. When people who love God encounter hardships, it's not a sign of God’s lack of love or care for us. Instead, it’s an opportunity for us to grow through these challenges, witnessing His grace and blessings amidst difficulties, ultimately drawing us closer to Him as we learn to rely on His guidance. Take for instance the biblical account of Joseph, who was sold into Egypt by his brothers, enduring immense suffering, trials, and temptations. Despite this, Joseph revered God, obeyed His ways, never blamed God, and refrained from wrongdoing. Eventually, he received God’s blessings and became the prime minister of Egypt. Similarly, Job underwent the loss of his wealth, the death of his children, and endured physical torment with painful sores all over his body. Yet, Job remained faithful to God’s ways—he feared God and shunned evil. Despite enduring immense suffering, he didn’t complain or blame God. Instead, he continued to praise the name of God, offering a powerful and resounding testimony. His faith in God was thus elevated, and was approved of by God. Eventually, God multiplied his blessings, and even appeared to Job, speaking to him within a whirlwind. From these examples, we learn that those who love God and follow His ways believe in and obey His orchestrations and arrangements, even in adverse circumstances. If we don’t love God, we are simply acting according to our own desires. In that case, we cannot see God’s actions, fail to enjoy His promises, and cannot experience His presence. Ultimately, we gain no benefit.

Friends, may we all strive to become people who love God, diligently follow His ways, obey God’s sovereignty in every circumstance, find benefit, and receive God’s blessings.

3. Matthew 6:31–33

This passage embodies the Lord Jesus’ essential teachings about faith and reliance on God. He instructs us not to excessively worry about life’s basic necessities because God understands our needs and will provide for us in due time. Jesus emphasizes the importance of seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness first, assuring that everything else will follow suit. However, many individuals tend to forget these teachings, and become overly concerned about the trivial aspects of life. In their bustling pursuit of material needs, they frequently overlook the development and growth of their spiritual lives. Consequently, they live in anxiety and distress, growing more distant from God. In truth, when we have faith and focus on pursuing spiritual growth, making God’s kingdom and righteousness our primary goal, He will supply all that we need. This attitude of confidence and reliance on God can help us transcend the worries of daily life, leading us to discover genuine peace and happiness within.

10. Proverbs 16:9

This scripture serves as a reminder that although we can make plans and set goals for ourselves, it’s ultimately God who directs our destiny and life’s path. Everyone may have their own visions and aspirations, and strive hard towards their ideals and dreams, hoping to change their fate one day, however, the outcomes often don’t match our intended plans. It’s in these moments we understand that despite having the freedom to sketch out our life’s course, we lack the ability to steer our destiny in reality. We can’t predict our future, much less control or alter our destiny. Just as God says, “Most people have the following wishes: to work less and earn more, not to toil in the sun and rain, to dress well, to glow and shine everywhere, to tower above others, and to bring honor to their ancestors. People hope for perfection, but when they take their first steps in the journey of their lives, they gradually come to realize how imperfect human destiny is, and for the first time they truly grasp the fact that, though one can make bold plans for one’s future and though one may harbor audacious fantasies, no one has the ability or the power to realize their own dreams, and no one is in a position to control their own future. There will always be some distance between one’s dreams and the realities that one must confront; things are never as one would like them to be, and faced with such realities, people can never achieve satisfaction or contentment. Some people will go to any length imaginable, will put forth great efforts and make great sacrifices for the sake of their livelihoods and future, in an attempt to change their own fate. But in the end, even if they can realize their dreams and desires by means of their own hard work, they can never change their fates, and no matter how doggedly they try, they can never exceed what destiny has allotted them. Regardless of differences in ability, intelligence, and willpower, people are all equal before fate, which does not distinguish between the great and the small, the high and the low, the exalted and the mean. What occupation one pursues, what one does for a living, and how much wealth one amasses in life are not decided by one’s parents, one’s talents, one’s efforts or one’s ambitions, but are predetermined by the Creator (The Word, Vol. 2. On Knowing God. God Himself, the Unique III).

God’s word clearly tells us that our destiny is in His hands. No matter how much we plan or strategize for our lives, ultimately, we cannot escape God’s sovereignty and arrangement for our destinies.
